Penya Union Blaugrana: Honorary Members
No. 1: Carlos Pastor
No. 2: Virginia Pastor
Carlos and Virginia were the owners of The BCN Sports Bar which was the PUB's Catalan HQ. They have both been extremely supportive of the Penya in the past and allowed us to use their bar to advertise the Penya, by displaying posters and handing out cards. They also provided a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere in their bar for all PUB members whilst they were in Barcelona. Sadly the bar has now closed.
As a thankyou for their continued support Carlos and Virginia have been made Honorary members.
No. 3: Gary Lineker
Legendary striker Gary Lineker accepted an
invitation to become a honorary member of
PUB in late May 2007. This is a major coup
for the Penya and we very proud of our links
with such a legend.
Gary arrived at Camp Nou as top goalscorer
from the Mexico 86 world cup in a 2.75m
transferfrom Everton. He netted 5 goals in his
first 7 outings in the first team and went on to
grab a total of 21 goals for the season. The
highlight for the season was Gary's 3 goals in a
3-2 win over Real Madrid. Instant hero status
in Camp Nou achieved he then added another
goal as Barca won in the Bernabeu later in the
season. The following season Barca lifted the Copa Del Rei but Gary was utilised more as a wide player than a striker. Then in his final
season with the club Gary helped the club to the European Cup Winners Cup. In the summer of 1989 Gary returned to England in a 1.2 million deal taking him to Spurs where he linked up again with Terry Venables.
In his 3 seasons with the club Gary made 103 appearances and scored 43 goals for the Blaugrana.
